The Utah Center for Vocology conducts research, provides education in vocology, and disseminates information about voice and speech, enabling individuals around the world to enjoy healthy and effective vocal communications.
Vocology Impacting Lives
Annette Jarvis sings with the Utah Symphony Chorus. But there was a time she thought she may never sing again. As part of her long road to recovery, Jarvis began working with UCV's director, Lynn Maxfield, through his role as singing voice specialist for the Voice Disorders Center at UHealth. Check out the interview to see the motivation and determination that helped her find her voice once again.
UCV at ASA/ASJ in Hononlulu
Dr. Titze, Dr. Maxfield, and Dr. Stark attended the joint meeting of the Acoustical Society of America and the Acoustical Society of Japan in Honolulu in December. They met with colleagues from around the world, including their collaborator and colleague, Dr. Brad Story (pictured above, second from left).
UCV Researchers Collaborate with The Charismatic Voice YouTube Channel
Dr. Amanda Heller and Dr. Titze are featured in an episode of The Charismatic Voice with creator Elizabeth Zharoff and vocalist Will Ramos of Lorna Shore. Will visited the University of Utah and UCV on the way to get imaging of his vocal cords to learn how anatomical structures react while he performs harsh vocals.

The Utah Center for Vocology envisions a world where people have access to accurate information regarding the principles governing vocalization, and where all voice uses are recognized and understood.
Strategic Goals
- Educate students in the field of vocology, primarily through the Summer Vocology Institute
- Conduct original research investigating all aspects of the use, habilitation, and rehabilitation of the voice and speech
- Support the "One U" mission of interdisciplinary collaboration by building relationships across departments and colleges, proposing and facilitating interactive research and training projects
